5 tips to lead a healthy lifestyle

Special Olympics promotes and trains athletes to live a healthy lifestyle, but the benefits of having healthy habits on a daily basis are for everyone.

If you are looking for ways to improve your health and start on the path to a healthier lifestyle, these tips can help you:

1. Make exercise a priority. Regular exercise helps reduce stress, improves mood and increases energy levels.

To be healthy you have to stay active and this does not mean that you have to go to the gym every day. There are many ways to stay active, such as walking, biking, or swimming. We just have to find activities that we like and make time for them every week.

It is important, if you are not used to being active, to start small and gradually increase your activity level over time.

We encourage you to visit our Strength School and train with two superstars with the help of baseball superstars Willson Contreras and Gleyber Torres.

2. Eat a balanced diet. This means eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, protein, and low-fat dairy products. You should also limit saturated fats, sugar and salt. Avoid processed foods whenever possible.

3. Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is important for overall health and can help reduce fatigue. It is important to make sure you drink enough fluids every day, especially if you exercise.

Our athletes follow these guidelines to stay hydrated during competition and Special Olympics training:

  • They drink plenty of water before and after physical activity to replace the fluids they lose through sweating.
  • They bring a water bottle to training or competition so they can hydrate when they need it.
  • They avoid sugary and sports drinks, which can actually dehydrate them further. The best way to hydrate is water or unsweetened tea.

4. Get enough sleep. Sleep is very important for overall health.

Getting the necessary hours of sleep is essential to improve daily functioning. Adults need between 7 and 8 hours of sleep each night to perform at their best.

It's important to create a nightly routine that includes relaxing for 30 minutes before bed and avoiding watching TV or using electronic devices in the hours before bedtime, as bright screens can interfere with sleep.

5.- Take time for yourself. This means relaxing and enjoying your hobbies or activities that you enjoy.

It can be easy to get caught up in work, family, and other obligations and forget to take time for yourself. However, taking time for yourself improves your mood, physical health, and overall well-being.

There are many different ways to relax. Some people like to read, listen to music, or watch television. Others prefer to stay active by taking a walk or bike ride, playing sports, or participating in other activities.

Whatever you enjoy doing, be sure to schedule time for it each week. This helps you stay healthy and happy!

A healthy lifestyle benefits physical and mental health and increases self-esteem. And the best way to adopt healthy habits is by making small changes over time. Start by incorporating one or two healthy behaviors into your daily routine and then add more as you feel more comfortable.

With these tips you will soon be on your way to a healthier, happier life.
